Do You Need 24/7 CCTV Monitoring?

Here at Jensen Security and Fire Systems we speak to a lot of homeowners and business owners about CCTV. We all know that CCTV surveillance cameras help boost the security of our homes and businesses. The sight of a CCTV camera is often enough to deter a potential criminal too. If a break-in was to take place, you also have the proof for the police and your insurance company.

However, there are a lot of different CCTV systems out there and a lot of different options to consider. For example, do you need 24/7 CCTV monitoring?

Generally speaking, there are two types of CCTV security systems. These are monitored and unmonitored.

24/7 CCTV monitoring means that a third party is paid to professionally monitor your security systems. The security professional will keep an eye out for faults, while also monitoring any potential criminal activity. Through 24/7 CCTV monitoring it means that all monitoring is carried out remotely and constantly. This eliminates the need for a security guard or similar to be on site at all times. It also means that you can respond to an emergency quicker if an incident was to occur.

If you were to have an unmonitored CCTV security system, there would be no third party keeping an eye on the recordings from within the business premises. This means, that as the owner, you would be solely responsible for the CCTV system. This would include checking for any faults and looking out for any potential criminal activity.

The great thing about a monitored system is that it offers 24/7 CCTV monitoring. However, it is more expensive than an unmonitored system. The charge for 24/7 CCTV monitoring is usually requested on a monthly basis. For larger scale business with large sites, a monitored CCTV system can be seen as an essential investment in the safety and security of the business.

If you have a smaller business or the security is for your home, you may feel you can effectively monitor your own CCTV system. We can help you with setting up alerts for your phone or mobile device. Our team will also help you set up remote viewing of your security cameras, so you can view your home or business from wherever you are.
