In this blog post we look at why your CCTV needs regular maintenance. We also share what you need to do to ensure your CCTV cameras are working efficiently.

To ensure that your CCTV camera systems are working as they should be, you need too complete regular CCTV maintenance. Some of the things you need to look out for when maintaining your CCTV cameras are the field of view of the lens. Is there anything blocking the view such as an overgrown tree, a bird’s nest or general dust and debris?

If you live in a city or town centre environment, you may notice that you have a build-up of dust and dirt. This can prohibit the performance of your CCTV cameras. There is often airborne pollution that settles in the town and city environments. It is important this is cleaned off the lens or dome of the CCTV camera to ensure the camera can work efficiently.

Make sure you check that your lens is focused and fully functioning too. If your CCTV camera is attached to a wall or post, make sure it is firmly attached. If it is drooping then it may be recording the wrong area, or it could drop and become unrepairable. Make sure that you check the motion detection is working too, if you have this feature on your CCTV camera system.

As well as checking the camera itself, you need to check the elements that make up the CCTV system. This includes monitors, switches and local recording equipment. It also includes any remote communication facilities such as an IP network or broadband connection for example.

Take the time to check the quality of the image on the monitor too. The image must be clear. Check that your brightness and contrast setting are adjusted correctly to get the clearest possible image from your CCTV cameras.

If you are looking to enhance the effectiveness of your CCTV system, why not consider remote monitoring and video analytics? This will mean that you can be alerted of any suspicious activity in real time. Want to know more? Give our CCTV security experts a call.
