Essential Security Tips For Homeowners

By October 21, 2020No Comments

As the evenings start to get darker sooner, the break-ins to homes are on the rise too. Thieves enjoy working under the cover of darkness, so the autumn and winter months are ideal for them. In this blog post we share just some of our many essential security tips for homeowners.

Security System

Here at Jensen Security we would recommend that every house has a good home security system in place. This could include CCTV surveillance cameras, strong door and window locks, external motion-sensor security lighting, electric gates, intruder alarms and more. The higher quality your home security, the better protected you and your family are against intruders.

Outdoor Lighting

While motion-sensor security lighting is highly recommended, outdoor lighting will help too. As we said earlier, burglars love to work under a cover of darkness. Outdoor lighting works well as a deterrent to potential thieves. It also helps you detect and easily view any unusual activity around your home.

House Keys

Many people do it, and this is why it’s often the first-place burglars look. Never leave spare keys under your doormat or a plant pot. If someone needs access to your home give them a spare set of keys. If you need keys stored somewhere in case of an emergency, leave them with a trusted neighbour or friend.

Door and Windows

If there are no keys under the doormat or hidden behind plant pots, the next place a thief will try is your windows and doors. Make sure you shut and securely lock your doors and windows when you go out, go to bed at night or relax in other parts of your home. Just before you go out at night or get ready for bed, go around the house to double check all your windows and doors are shut and locked securely.
