By understanding the classifications of the different types of fires, this will help you choose the right fire extinguishers for your industrial premises. There are Class A fires that involve organic solids such as paper, wood, straw and plastics for example. Class B fires are another type of fire. These types of fires involve any flammable liquids such as petroleum greases, petrol, oil and tars for example.

Class C fires are fuelled by flammable gasses such as propane, butane or methane for example. Meanwhile a Class D fire involves metals, like burning titanium or magnesium. These are often common risks with machinery. Class F fires are typically more of a risk in any restaurant, kitchen or catering department. This is because a Class F fire will involve cooking oils and fats.

Another type of fire is electrical fires. These are any fires that involve a live electrical appliance. The electrical fire could be caused by faulty wiring, poorly maintained machinery, short circuits, power cord damage or overloaded electrical outlets for example. Wherever there is an electrical power source, there is the risk of an electrical fire.
